NYLPC Soirée (Lecture & Dinner) 2026

At Shearn Delamore & Co., we believe that investing in our young lawyers is an investment in the future of our firm and the profession. On 22 January 2026, we were proud to send a delegation of 25 young lawyers to the NYLPC Soirée (Lecture & Dinner) 2026 held this year at the Royal Lake Club, where our young lawyers had the honour of hearing first-hand from the Chief Justice of Malaysia, YAA Datuk Seri Utama Wan Ahmad Farid bin Wan Salleh, on "Judicial Activism or Judicial Duty? Defending the Rule of Law Against Executive Hubris".

NYLPC Soirée, an annual event organised by the Malaysian Bar’s National Young Lawyers and Pupils Committee (NYLPC), offers a rare and invaluable opportunity for our young lawyers to move beyond the courtroom and engage in meaningful dialogue with members of the Judiciary and senior members of the Bar. This year, 18 Judges from the Federal Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court, along with several senior Bar leaders, provided mentorship to the next generation of lawyers. Among them was our Head of Tax, Trade & Customs and Co-Head of Competition Law & Antitrust, Anand Raj, who also serves as Vice President of the Malaysian Bar.

It was also a pleasure for our young lawyers to connect with delegates and foreign young lawyers from the Hong Kong Bar Association, Law Society of Hong Kong, Law Society of Singapore, European Young Bar Association, LAWASIA, Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and Inter-Pacific Bar Association. We hope these connections foster lasting ties across borders.

Adding a twist to the evening, our very own TMT Associate Cheng Xuan Boo, who is also Co-Deputy Chairperson of NYLPC, and Employment and Industrial Relations Associate Peter Santiago, also an NYLPC member, delighted the audience with a music performance alongside another NYLPC member.

We would like to again congratulate NYLPC on a successful Soirée, and we look forward to next year’s event.
