Dr Talks April 2025

Our Dispute Resolution (DR) Practice Group held its latest session of the DR Evening Talk Series on 28 April 2025. This session featured our DR Partner, Nik Azila Shuhada Nik Abdullah, who led the talk titled "A Bird's-Eye View of Corporate Liability Under Section 17A of the MACC Act."

Nik Azila, who practises across all aspects of civil and commercial litigation both in court and arbitration, shared practical insights on corporate liability under the anti-corruption legal regime pursuant to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 ("MACC Act"), including the obligations of directors and management of companies, and the critical role of adequate procedures as a defence. The session also explored the T.R.U.S.T. principles outlined in the official guidelines, case law developments, and the increasing importance of top-level commitment to anti-corruption compliance in corporate governance.

The session offered a highly engaging and informative platform for discussion, equipping our lawyers and pupils with essential practical knowledge to navigate corporate compliance and enforcement challenges in relation to the MACC Act.
