2026 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (Malaysian National Rounds)

This year marks Shearn Delamore & Co.’s 21st consecutive year of sponsoring the Malaysian National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, reaffirming the firm’s steadfast commitment to supporting the competition.

The 2026 Malaysian National Rounds were hosted by Universiti Malaya on 28th February and 1st March 2026.

The 2026 Jessup Problem centred on “The Case Concerning the Gorgian Gorge” – an international law dispute between the Dominion of Alekostria and the Republic of Restovia.

This year’s National Rounds welcomed participation from eight (8) Malaysian law schools:

  1. Brickfields Asia College
  2. International Islamic University Malaysia
  3. Multimedia University 
  4. Taylor’s University
  5. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 
  6. Universiti Malaya
  7. Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin
  8. Universiti Utara Malaysia

Our Senior Associates, Elisia Engku Kangon and Saresh Mahenderan were invited to serve as judges in the qualifying national rounds.

The 2026 National Finals featured a spirited contest between the Applicant Team from Brickfields Asia College and the Respondent Team from Universiti Malaya.

Presiding over the Final Round as “Justices” were: 

  1. Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan (President of the Asian International Arbitration Centre Court of Arbitration; Immediate Past Director of the Asian International Arbitration Centre; Retired Federal Court Judge of Malaysia)
  2. Datuk S. Nantha Balan (Consultant at Messrs. Adnan, Sundra & Low; Retired Judge of the Court of Appeal); and 
  3. Mr G. Rajasingam (Partner of Messrs. Shearn Delamore & Co)

The winners of the competition are as follows:

  1. National Champion & Winner of the Shearn Delamore & Co Challenge Trophy: Brickfields Asia College
  2. Runner-Up: Universiti Malaya
  3. Recipient of The Adrian W. Delamore Award for Best Overall Memorial: Universiti Malaya
  4. Recipient of the Errol D. Shearn Award for Best Oralist: Mr. Joshua Paul from Brickfields Asia College

The trophies and awards were presented by our Partners, Mr G. Rajasingam and Ms Nik Azila Shuhada.

Both the Champion and Runner-Up teams will represent Malaysia at the 2026 International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, to be held from 28th March to 4th April 2026 in Washington, D.C.
