12th DR Evening Talk Series
On 12.12.2025, Shearn Delamore & Co. organised its final DR Evening Talk Series for the year. The session was moderated by our very own Mr. G. Rajasingam, and featured Mr. Srimurugan Alagan, of Messrs Srimurugan & Co.. Mr. Srimurugan Alagan is a multifaceted practitioner with over 20 years of experience in practice, appearing for some of the nation’s landmark public interest cases such as Alma Nudo Atenza v Public Prosecutor (and Another Appeal) [2019] 4 MLJ 1 and Loh Siew Hong v Pendaftar Mualaf Perlis & 3 Ors [2024] 2 AMR 524 CA.
Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Srimurugan Alagan is an author, having published books and articles in various areas of law including Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure and Constitutional Law. He also lectures and tutors at law schools within Malaysia.
Drawing from Mr. Srimurugan Alagan’s experience in public interest litigation, the talk was titled “Spirited Constitutional Challenges in Malaysia: A Bulwark Against Tyranny” and focused on constitutional challenges in Malaysia.
Mr. Srimurugan Alagan began his talk by outlining the jurisdiction of the various courts in Malaysia. He then expanded on the circumstances in which the High Court may refer constitutional questions to the Federal Court, and spoke on judicial review proceedings, key Malaysian authorities, as well as his personal experience in handling such cases throughout his career. During the Q&A session, Mr. Srimurugan Alagan spoke about his interest in constitutional law, which resonated with our lawyers and provided much food for thought.
