7th DR Evening Talk Series 2026

Shearn Delamore & Co. recently hosted its 7th DR Evening Talk Series of 2026 on Friday, 17 July 2026, featuring a session titled “Reading Financial Statements”. The session was conducted by our Dispute Resolution Partner, Yee Mei Ken, in collaboration with Deloitte, with Khoo Siew Kiat, Eddie Goh Hua Yang, Lee Mun Ee and Ramyah Valrek as guest speakers.

Our guest speakers from Deloitte shared practical insights on interpreting financial statements and identifying potential red flags through financial analysis. Through practical case studies, they demonstrated the importance of looking beyond the form of transactions to their underlying commercial substance.

Building on Deloitte's presentation, Yee Mei Ken examined financial statements from a legal perspective. He highlighted the importance of identifying potential red flags and cautioned against accepting the figures at face value, emphasising that while financial statements may constitute prima facie evidence, they may not be conclusive. He also shared the importance of looking beyond the figures to the underlying supporting documents, which may be required to substantiate the figures reflected in the financial statements.

The session drew an excellent turnout, with lawyers and pupils from across the Firm's practice areas coming together for an engaging evening of learning and knowledge sharing.

At Shearn Delamore & Co., we remain committed to fostering continuous learning and professional development through regular training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
