Eu John focuses on public and private M&A, joint ventures, reorganisations, regulatory, and general corporate advisory matters. He has worked on transactions which straddled across industries specifically education, oil and gas, manufacturing, retail, telecommunication and property.

On the merger and acquisition and restructuring front, his notable involvement in deals include:-

  • Advised Saudi Aramco (through White & Case, an instructing counsel), in its investment and joint venture with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) in the Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project in the southern Malaysia state of Johor. The total estimated value of the investment by Saudi Aramco is US$7 billion.
  • Acted as the Malaysian counsel for Laureate Education, Inc., (a company listed on the NASDAQ stock market) (through DLA Piper, as the instructing counsel) in its sale of INTI Education Holdings Sdn. Bhd. and its subsidiaries to HOPE Education Group (Hong Kong) Company Limited (a wholly-owned subsidiary of HKEX-listed Hope Education Group Co., Ltd) at a transaction value of USD140 million, which includes USD14million payable to a minority equity shareholder.
  • Advised Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) in connection with its Malaysian subsidiary during NTT’s restructuring and integrating 28 of its subsidiary companies, including NTT Communications, South Africa-based Dimension Data and NTT Security, into one USD11 billion business called NTT Ltd.
  • Advised Kadokawa Corporation, Japan (leading entertainment content provider in Japan) it its acquisition of an 80% stake in Malaysian Art Square Group (ASG) company, namely Gala Unggul Resources Sdn. Bhd., through its Hong Kong subsidiary, KADOKAWA Holdings Asia Limited (KHA). ASG is a leading publisher of comics and children’s books in Malaysia, best known for its GEMPAK STARZ brand label.
  • Advised Vista Laser Eye Center on joining the Qualitas Health Integrated Network in 2022.
  • Acted for the shareholders of The Inside Scoop Sdn. Bhd. (TISSB) for the divestment of 53% shares and fresh issuance of 12% shares in TISSB to Farm Fresh Berhad in 2023.
  • Acted as Malaysian counsel to United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in relation to its separation of these 3 lines of business: (1) the supply of systems to the aerospace and defense industry (Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney); (2) the manufacture, service and sale of elevators, escalators and moving walkways (Otis); and (3) the provision of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and security technologies (Carrier). In connection with the separation, UTC was pursuing an internal reorganisation of certain of its subsidiaries and joint venture interests and our involvement was in respect of the Malaysian subsidiaries and entities where UTC has, directly or indirectly, a stake.
  • Acted as transaction counsel to Envictus International Holdings Limited in their disposal of 100% shares in Gourmessa Sdn. Bhd, the warehouse and cold storage facility and related assets of Pok Brothers Sdn Bhd (their’s wholly owned subsidiary) and some lands, all to a wholly owned subsidiary of Johnsonville Holding Inc. in 2023.
